NACDEA Don Aron Scholarship
2018 Scholarship Recipient
Brooke Kohout Harrington, DE Brooke Kohout, a freshman at Delaware Valley University in Pennsylvania, is the 2018 Don Aron Scholarship recipient. She is the daughter of Chris Kohout, a former District Employee of the Kent Conservation District (KCD) in Dover, DE, and also the gran-daughter of KCD Board Supervisor Edwin Alexander.
Brooke grew up active in clubs at Lake Forest High School in Felton, DE, including FFA, Delaware State Junior Fair Board, National Honor Society, and was also a Pharmacy Intern. She was regarded as a hardworking, dedicated, and caring person. During her four years at Lake Forest she took over 15 honors, college, and AP courses while maintaining a 4.0 GPA. In addition, she understood the importance of serving her community and volunteered for organizations such as the Farm Bureau, Kent Conservation District, the Delaware State Fair, and Lake Forest High School. Brooke understood that everything she did in high school would one day be the reflection of who she is. Knowing that she did an awesome job being involved in extracurricular activities such as softball and the FFA, has maintained high grades, given her time to others through volunteer work, and even won numerous awards because of her hard work. Brooke has now turned her efforts to Delaware Valley University where she is enrolled in Agribusiness. Interesting fact; Brooke is also the niece of the 2012 Don Aron Scholarship Recipient, and former Kent Conservation District employee turned educator Paula Kohout. |
The NCDEA Scholarship has been established in memory of Don Aron, who worked to organize the National Conservation District Employees Association. He also helped to establish the by-laws and served as the first President of our organization from 1992-1993.
The objective of the scholarship program is to provide financial support to a District Employee or member of their immediate family who is participating in a resource conservation curriculum while enrolled in an accredited college or university. Visit NCDEA for more information. Application Donations are being sought for a Scholarship Fund to help district employees and their families who are majoring in agriculture and agriculture-related studies. |
